The Rowdies defeated FC Edmonton 3-1 Wednesday night at Al Lang Stadium, thanks to second half goals from midfielder Shane Hill and midfielder Pascal Millien.
The Rowdies claimed the season series with FC Edmonton, with two wins, one tie and one loss in the four matches, and has now moved within one point of third place in the NASL standings.
"It was fantastic for us to get the three points tonight," said head coach Ricky Hill. "The players worked hard tonight and took care of business."
With the victory, the Rowdies wrapped up the month of July by earning 10 out of a possible 15 points in its five league matches, in addition to a 1-0 victory over the English Premier League's Bolton Wanderers in a friendly.
Forward Aaron King scored in the sixth minute for the Rowdies and forward Alex Semenets scored his first goal of the year for FC Edmonton in the 28th minute as the teams headed to halftime knotted at 1.
King's goal marked the fifth straight game with a goal for the forward as he finished off a cross from Millien, who notched his team-high fifth assist of the year. The goal came in the sixth minute, marking the earliest the Rowdies has scored in a match this season.
"I think the balance has been very good," said Ricky Hill. "Aaron has worked exceptionally well in the last few months in training and we've seen his consistency improve, and as we've seen he does have an eye for the goal."
The Rowdies regained the lead in the 60th minute when Hill scored his first goal of the year off of a rebound in the 18-yard box.
"The momentum was high, and everyone was working hard for each other," said Shane Hill. "It was good to get back on track today; we needed a win."
Millien extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal into an open net in the 84th minute off a beautiful assist from forward Mike Ambersley. It was Millien's third goal of the year.

Rowdies vs. Atlanta Silverbacks

Atlanta Silverbacks 2 vs. Rowdies 1
The Rowdies dropped a 2-1 decision to the Atlanta Silverbacks Saturday night at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. The loss snapped the Rowdies' season-long four-match unbeaten streak, dating back to its previous last setback on June 18 at Carolina.
Assistant coach David Hayes took over the head coaching duties for the second straight match in the absence of head coach Ricky Hill, who did not travel with the team because of a death in the family. The Rowdies played without captain Frankie Sanfilippo, who had played in every minute of the first 16 matches, as well as midfielder Chad Burt (foot). Sanfilippo suffered dehydration symptoms at Thursday’s practice at Shimberg Fields and was hospitalized for observation in Tampa.
"When you miss your captain and a player like Frankie, it is very hard if you can even replace a guy like him," said Hayes. "My heart goes out to him and his family, and the first priority is to make sure he is okay."
The first goal of the match was scored by Junior Sandoval in the seventh minute, with Matt Horth getting the assist for the Silverbacks. It was Sandoval's second goal of the year and Horth's first assist this season.
The Rowdies had a great opportunity in the 22nd minute when midfielder Pascal Millien's shot was deflected by Atlanta goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and off the crossbar. Forward Mike Ambersley followed with a shot that was blocked and he followed that with a shot that went wide.
Atlanta midfielder Ciaran O'Brien headed in a long throw-in from Tyler Ruthven for his fourth goal of the year and a 2-0 Silverbacks lead in the 41st minute.
"We created our chances, but we were chasing the game from the beginning and that is never good," said Hayes. "You can't give up a goal in the seventh minute and then give up another one."
Rowdies' forward Aaron King responded moments later with a goal in the 43rd minute as his shot deflected off Atlanta defender Mattias Schnorf and into the net. It was King's fifth goal of the year, including his fourth consecutive match with a score.
"I respect King tremendously for fighting through adversity this year and now he is taking advantage of his opportunity," said Hayes. "His hard work and mentality represents what we want on this team."
The Rowdies almost tied the match in the 61st minute when Ambersley put the ball in the net, but he was called for offsides on the play. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, second half substitute Tsuyoshi Yoshitake shot the ball towards an open net, but Ruthven headed away the chance to preserve the Silverbacks victory.
"I am proud of the guys that they fought for each other, stuck to the gameplan and never gave up," said Hayes. "I think you saw that with the number of chances we had, and I was very pleased with how they responded throughout the game after falling behind 2-0."

Lineups:
Rowdies Lineup: Attinella, Arango (Captain), Watson-Siriboe (Yamada 31'), Rodrigues (Ukah 78'), Morrow, Savage, Gyorio, Millien, Hill (Yoshitake 76'), Ambersley, King
Atlanta Silverbacks Lineup: Maurer, Schnorf, Hunt, Ruthven, Casarona (Robertson 82'), Davis, O'Brien (Parada 84'), Cox, Paulini (Captain), Sandoval (Cox 73'), Horth

Scoring Summary:
Silverbacks: Junior Sandoval - 7th minute (assisted by Matt Horth)
Silverbacks: Ciaran O'Brien - 41st minute (assisted by Tyler Ruthven)
Rowdies: Aaron King - 43rd minute (assisted by Mike Ambersley)

Rowdies vs. Bolton Wanderers (Exhibition Game)

Rowdies 1 vs. Bolton Wanderers 0
The Rowdies knocked off the English Premier League's Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Thursday night at Al Lang Stadium. The Rowdies scored in the second half on a goal by forward Matt Clare in the 65th minute.
The performance was especially impressive for the Rowdies considering it played without several starters, including injured midfielders Chad Burt, Takuya Yamada and Tsuyoshi Yoshitake. In addition, the Rowdies was forced to play an unsigned trialist and defender Justin Morrow played 38 minutes after landing in Tampa less than 12 hours before the match.
"I hope that match gives our team the world of confidence, and that starts collectively with hard work and application," said head coach Ricky Hill. "Tonight was a great opportunity for our team. To win the game is a great bonus. We're indebted to our goalkeepers at times. Evan was tremendous this evening and Jeff likewise."
The match was the first-ever international friendly at home for the Rowdies and marked the first match in a three-game preseason tour for Bolton here in the United States.
"We knew it would be demanding physically," said Bolton manager Owen Coyle. "Tampa Bay scored a very good goal. Credit to them. I thought they worked their socks off. I felt the game was played in the right spirit, the right atmosphere."
During a scoreless first half, the pace of the match seemed to waver between long crosses and few attempts on the goal. The Wanderers stepped up the tempo of play in the second half and the Rowdies picked up the pace as well.
Hill brought midfielder Pascal Millien on as a substitute in the 62nd minute and the move paid immediate dividends as he assisted on Clare's goal with a cross to the forward.
Rookie goalkeeper Jeff Attinella shut out Bolton in the first half before being replaced by Evan Newton for the final 45 minutes, with Newton making several big stops to preserve the victory. Newton had six saves in his first action for the Rowdies.
"Obviously I hope we gave them our best," said Attinella. "We definitely wanted to come out here and play hard. I feel like we played well, tested them and held our own for the most part. Hopefully a game like this gains some respect for the NASL. We can compete with teams and I think we just proved it tonight."

Lineups:
Rowdies Lineup: Attinella (Newton 45'), Sanfilippo (Captain), Arango, Watson-Siriboe (Morrow 62'), Rodrigues, Hill (Millien 62'), Gyorio, Savage, Hayes, Ambersley (Goodluck 83'), King (Clare 62')
Bolton Wanderers Lineup: Jaaskelainen (Bogdan 45'), Steinsson (Connolly 74'), Robinson (Alonso 45'), Cahill, Knight (Wheater 45'), Taylor (Petrov 45'), Davies (Gardner 45'), Pratley (Muamba 45'), Lee (Obadeyi 74'), Davies - Captain (Eaves 74'), Klasnic (Blake 45')

Rowdies vs. Puerto Rico Islanders

Puerto Rico Islanders 1 vs. Rowdies 1
The Rowdies and Puerto Rico played to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium.
The Rowdies have now earned four ties among its six road matches this season. The Islanders remain the only league team that is undefeated at home this season, with three wins and three draws in their six matches at JRL Stadium. Overall Puerto Rico has not lost in its last five matches since a 3-0 loss at Edmonton on June 15.
"I was pleased overall with the commitment and attitude from the players," said Rowdies' head coach Ricky Hill. "It would have been nice to get the three points, but we certainly earned a point tonight."
Forward Aaron King gave the Rowdies a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute with his third goal of the season, including his second consecutive match with a goal. Midfielder Pascal Millien back heeled the ball to King, who deposited the ball in the corner of the net. The assist for Millien was his team-leading fourth of the year.
Puerto Rico had several chances in the first half, including a shot off the crossbar in the 31st minute. Rowdies' goalkeeper Jeff Attinella and Islanders GK Ray Burse each made three saves in the opening 45 minutes. In addition, the Rowdies lost starting midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake to a hamstring injury in the 12th minute.
"I was very pleased with the first half, especially a couple of big saves from Jeff," said Hill. "And it was a great buildup to a very good goal by Aaron. I thought the players did a good job of overcoming the loss of Yoshi and not letting that disrupt our gameplan."
The Rowdies held its 1-0 lead into the second half before Millien was ejected from the game after receiving yellow cards in the 61st and 71st minutes, forcing the Rowdies to play with 10 men. The Islanders took advantage and tied the match on a goal by David Foley in the 82nd minute.
"I thought we came out playing well in the second half and I was disappointed with the second yellow card that went against us at that time," said Hill. "Puerto Rico kept pressing and the ball ended up in the net."

Lineups:
Rowdies Lineup: Attinella, Sanfilippo (Captain), Arango, Watson-Siriboe, Rodrigues, Millien, Yoshitake (Ukah 12'), Savage, Gyorio, King (Hayes 72'), Ambersley
Islanders Lineup: Burse, Martinez, Cunningham, Emory (Needham 45'), Jones (Van Schaik 81'), MPitchkolan, Ly Rojas, Villegas (Perez 57'), Delgado (Captain), Foley, Bouraee

Scoring Summary:

Islanders: David Foley - 82nd minute
